Mathis had some back-and-forth emails with 9NEWS in which he explained what went wrong. When the initial report showed up saying the Eagles would release Mathis if they couldn’t trade him, the offensive lineman says he sent his coach this YouTube video of a song performed by Engelbert Humperdinck titled, “Please Release Me.”

Eventually he was released and he had plenty of interest from teams around the league. He made the right decision by choosing the Broncos, who would go on to win the Super Bowl. It was a crazy ride for Mathis, but in the end it all worked out for the best.
